I am very pleased with how my drawing based on the dolphins painted in the Minoan palace at Knossos, Greece came out. By outlining my dolphins in black pencil it really made them stand out. The colors I chose worked well in the drawing, and the composition was good. I made the drawing my own artwork!
I was very pleased with how my gryphon drawing came out! I used a ballpoint pen to ink in the pencil sketch I made. Then I colored in the details with colored pencils. I did the background in watercolor paints. The gryphon was closely based on a Minoan mural from the throne room of the palace at Knossos. The archaic sphinx also came out well. I colored it in bright, gaudy colors as the ancient Greeks did. I based the drawing closely on the sculpture of the Sphinx of the Naxians from Delphi, Greece. This one I colored in using colored pencils and left the background white. Next I want to draw a gorgon based on a sixth century Attic pl
Today I drew an Etruscan double flute player based on the mural in the Tomb of the Leopard. I made some changes. I did the eye in profile and I made the feet anatomically correct. I drew the sketch in pencil. I then inked it using a black ballpoint pen. Then I erased the pencil marks and colored in the details with colored pencils. I then painted in the background with watercolors. This worked out well because I could just slap on the water colors over the the colored areas without it mixing with the colors. I just had to avoid the white areas on the flute player's tunic.
